Why cats need fibre and how they get the right amount
Like humans, cats need fibre in their diet. In all mammals, it helps the gut digest and process the food we eat. For omnivores like humans, the easiest source of fibre is plants. Eating a range of different plants provides the gut with different types of fibre all of which help with our digestion.
Because cats’ digestive tract is different to that of humans, plants are less suited to providing fibre. In the wild, cats will eat hair, skin, feathers, and fur from their prey, which provides them with fibre. Although 3coty® natural wet cat food is as close to what cats eat in the wild, it does not contain feathers or fur! Rather, our higher fibre foods contain algae to add a bit more fibre to the meat and bone paste already in our foods.
Not all cats need additional fibre. It can however help if they are constipated or as their digestive system slows down with age. Within the 3coty® range, our highest fibre flavors are the senior range, available in the convenient multipack (Senior). If your cat suffers occasionally from constipation or hairballs, introducing one of these flavors may help improve their digestion.
For fast support which is more likely to be accepted quickly, we have also created our 97. DIGESTIVE SUPPORT: a powder that can be sprinkled on their usual food. If you know that your cat needs some extra help, your cat may not want to eat a new food. Adding our powder to their current 3coty® or other food enables you to add fibre to the food you know they enjoy eating.
