Factors which affect how firm our food is
Different flavors of 3coty® wet cat food can vary in how firm they are and whether they keep their shape once scooped into the cat bowl. This is partly because of the texture of that flavor, however, more heavily affected by the moisture content. The lower the moisture content, the firmer the food.
The moisture content reflects how much water or liquid is in the food. It is what makes wet cat food wet and is as close to the food they eat in the wild as possible. We often hear that humans are 85% water. Mice are closer to 60% – 75% water. Feeding your cat food that has a similar water content to a mouse makes it easier for the cat to digest and take up all the nutrients.
We talk a lot about how important it is for cats to eat wet cat food to ensure they take up enough liquid, however, wet cat food with 85% moisture content has only 15% of protein, fat, fibre, minerals and other nutrients. We have decided to formulate our foods to have a moisture content of around 70%, similar to that of the natural prey of cats.
This may still alarm you because if 70% of 3coty® food is moisture, only 30% is solid food. This may be true, however reflects the mix of moisture and fibre, proteins, minerals and other nutrients cats eat in the wild. Because our natural wet cat food is made with 100% meat, it means that in that 30%, there are no unnecessary carbohydrates or other fillers. The key to a healthy diet for cats is approximating their natural diet as much as possible. Meat only wet food like they would hunt themselves.
